and clothing. her son just arrived to pick her up can bring her away from this scene. unfortunately, her aunt did not survive the fire. the first call was at 1:00 o'clock this morning and firefighters say the man smelled smoke in his room and saw the fire. he tried to put it out with a fire extinguisher but it was defective. he and his wife escaped but the aunt was trapped. firefighters say they faced a big obstacle before they could get to the woman. >> you could see by the smoke pattern where the fire was blowing out from the front door and came out here. our crews initially had to put that fire down in order to proceed into the house. >> firefighters brought the woman out of the house but she died at seen. husband complained of chest pains and brought to the hospital. his wife was at the neighbor's house and is okay. firefighters are investigating the cause but believe it was probably electrical and a neighbor said several cats lived

at the home and unfortunately the firefighters say they have fund two that have died. developing news, a student's actions are credited with helping stop a campus gunman in seattle. suspect has been identified as 26-year-old aaron ybarra in jail now and denied bail. before bar is accused of -- ybarra is accuses of kill one and injuring others. a building monitor pepper sprayed him as he tried to reload and disarmed him. other students pinned him to the ground until police arrived. >> unfortunately we focus on just the suspect and that is the tragedy. suspect creates an evil act and we only focus on the individual not those, victims or the people this have supported them. that is what we need to focus on here because regular citizens step up can tried to do the right thing and i believe they

prevented a more horrible tragedy. >> a 19-year-old victim died at the hospital and a 20-year woman was critically injured and two others were wounded but should recover. katie marzullo will have more including a possible motive in our next half hour. >> a legal kiltant accused of possessing explosive materials is scheduled to be back in a san francisco federal courtroom for a detention hearing. fbi agents conducted another search of 42-year-old ryan chamberlain's apartment on jackson and polk the same location where they say they found explosive materials over the week. agents removed several more boxes of evidence and ryan chamberlain has been charged with one count of possessing illegal destructive device. he was arrested on monday after a these-day nationwide manhunt. >> a a billionaire tom styer has

the search and it is called a routine second search for more evidence but they did future say what they found. 42-year-old ryan chamberlain faces one count of possessing illegal explosive device. agents say they found four components his to make a bomb in his apartment including powder and nails. authorities have not said what they think he was going to do with the materials. a neighbor doubts ryan chamberlain had anything dangerous planned. >> i didn't think he was the type of person to do something like that. i could be wrong. the arrest was captured on camera by a witness fear crissy field on monday night and agents spent two days look for him and put out a wanting saying he was armed and dangerous which ryan chamberlain denied on social media posting. the judge has issued a mental health evaluation for ryan chamberlain. if he is convicted he could face

a maximum of 10 years in prison. developing news, classes are canceled at a seattle university after another mass shooting. a gunman opened fire on campus and, again, someone is killed. we are learning new details of the shooter and the student now being hailed as a hero and owe reporter, katie marzullo, is in the newsroom. the suspect, 26-year-old aaron ybarra was obsessed with the column bain school shooting. he traveled to colorado at one point to see the school in person and he wanted to "shoot up a school." he is in jail held without bail on suspicion of murder. new video of armed police raiding his house in mountainlake terrace. a woman who was seriously wounded is out of surgery in

intensive care. he open fire on a science building at seattle pacific university with a shotgun, extra shells and a knife and he was "hellbent" on killing a lost pole. a student stopped him. >> a student monitor who works inside of the facility observed the suspect reloading the should gun and was able to stop the individual at that point. he pepper sprayed the shooter. >> police have not revealed a motive. ybarra was fought a student at the university does not appear to have a connection to the school or victim. all classes and evening events are canceled today at the university but faculty members are asked on the school website to come to campus and make themselves available to students 6:35 and now to a hay

covering benicia, san ramon, san mateo and all the bay area, this is abc7 news. in hayward a woman was killed in a fire. matt keller is on the scene. this was a tragedy. a woman died inside this home. the fire started in the front bedroom. the fire partial is here. they are cleaning out the front bedroom to figure out what started the flames. the first call was at 1:00 o'clock. the husband smelled smoke. he saw the fire in his room and ran to the garage to get a fire extinguisher but it was defective. the olderly woman was wheelchair bound is stuck in a back bedroom. firefighters got to her but she died at the scene. >> when i cape out here i was

shocked. hocked. i had to ask, everyone make it...they didn't answer. the husband was taken to the hospital with chest pains. his wife was saying at the neighbor's home. eight cats and two birds lived in the home. two cats and both birds were dead, 12 pigeons and eight doves were found in the back yesterday alive. the fire appears to be electrical but they will be out here this morning to make sure that is the cause. right now we take you back to our breaking news story: this is a picture of a hay fire which is quite massive and broke out last night firefighters decided to let it burn itself out.
